Niles and Brian
Brian Eno is the philosopher-inventor of ambient sound. Nile Rodgers is the groove genius behind “Le Freak” and “Good Times.” These are two of my favorite music producers, and they make music in starkly different styles.
Yet both talk about art in the same language: feeling.
Brian Eno said recently, “The first response we have to most things is a feeling response, particularly if they’re unfamiliar things. They are, in fact, our first antennae.”
And Nile Rodgers says, “Art - well, good art at least - takes you to a place you go during the experience of it, and then after you experience it you are different.”
Feeling is the gateway to all art and all experience. It tells us something before our thoughts and words can label it. It’s the body’s way of saying, pay attention here. When we create, coach, parent, and lead from feeling, we’re in a living conversation with our own aliveness.
Three words can be yours.
Clarity. Courage. Commitment.

My coaching practice draws from a range of sources: IFS, systems work, somatics, values alignment, creative process. Like my record collection, my friendships, and my home decor, I’m eclectic. I don’t subscribe to schools of thought. I customize my methods to service clients; I don’t try to make clients fit my methods.
There is no perfection, only creative direction.
What are you creating in your life right now? How’s the mix, the ambience, the freak, the feeling? Here are some questions to ask your creative parts:
IFS Check-In for the Creative Process
When you feel overwhelmed, pause.
Where do you notice that feeling in your body?
What does it need from you right now...space, patience, breath?
Does the process itself feel too long, too short, too undefined?
See if you can stay with the process rather than resist it—
and imagine your deadlines as friendly beats, helping you keep the rhythm.
If you’re having a hard time getting started, notice where that stuckness lives.
Gently ask the part of you that’s holding you back:
What are you afraid will happen if I move forward?
Listen for its answer-not just in words, but in sensations, images, or temperature shifts inside.
Then, bring awareness to what arises when you’re not creating,
and again when you are.
How do those states feel differently in your body?
What do they look like?
How do they speak to one another—and to you?
Let’s get in the groove together, and feel our way through.
With softness and steadiness,
