What is Internal Family Systems (IFS)

A way of understanding that we all have different "parts" inside us

Ever notice how part of you wants to be social while another part wants to stay home? Or how you can feel confident one moment and insecure the next?

This is normal—we all have different "parts" of ourselves with different jobs.

Some parts try to keep us safe by planning ahead. Others jump in when we're stressed. Some parts carry old hurts we're still healing from. Instead of fighting these different parts, IFS teaches us to listen to them with curiosity: What is this part trying to do for me?

When we understand our parts instead of judging them, we can lead from our centered, calm Self—and that's where real healing happens.

Why Attachment Matters

In IFS, transformation begins when we shift our relationship to our parts. Many protectors are frozen in time— carrying burdens from earlier life stages, unsure if they’re truly safe.

When you show up as a reliable, compassionate leader for your parts, they begin to soften. Like any relationship, healing takes place in the context of trust, attunement, and presence.

By the end of this workshop, you’ll understand how to begin building secure, internal attachment bonds with your protectors—opening the door to greater clarity, calm, and self-leadership

Who is Angie Lieber

IFS and Trauma-Informed Coach

who helps you dig deep to move forward

Angie Lieber is a coach and healer for brave-hearted people who want to go deep to move forward. She works through a trauma-informed lens, integrating Internal Family Systems (IFS), adult development, and decades of experience in both nonprofit leadership and clinical settings.

Her path began in Jerusalem, walking with a psychoanalyst mentor and exploring attachment theory. She later worked at a psychiatric center for children in San Francisco, where the transformative power of safety and connection left an indelible mark.

At Harvard, Angie studied adult development with a focus on sexual trauma, exploring how courage, inhibition, and voice shape our growth.

As the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, Angie understands how legacy burdens live within us. She also honors the wisdom of neurodivergence—believing that we’re all wired differently, and that how you feel is always valid. After three decades raising millions for mission-driven organizations, she now guides individuals in befriending their protectors and listening inward.

Angie helps her clients make room for clarity, compassion, and deep change in a world that rarely gives us space to pause.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is this different from a traditional Internal Family Systems (IFS) session or training?

While rooted in the IFS model, this workshop goes beyond technique. It integrates trauma-informed principles, recognizing that not all parts are ready to be seen or heard in the same way—and that safety must come first. We move gently, at the pace of your system, without forcing connection or insight. This is not therapy or clinical training—it’s a supportive space to begin a relationship with your protectors from a grounded, compassionate place

What role does attachment theory play in this course?

This workshop is deeply informed by attachment theory—specifically the idea that healing happens through secure relationships. Many of our protectors formed in moments of relational rupture, when no one was there to soothe, mirror, or guide us. Here, you’ll learn how to offer that kind of attuned presence to your parts, becoming a steady, trustworthy inner caregiver. This is the beginning of internal secure attachment—what John Bowlby (father of attachment theory) might call a “safe base.”

Will this work for me if I’ve experienced trauma, I’m neurodivergent, or I don’t relate to IFS language?

Yes. This workshop honors that we all make meaning differently, depending on our life experiences, cultural context, and neurobiology. The space is designed to be neurodivergent-aware and culturally respectful, with multiple ways to engage—somatically, visually, verbally, or in writing. You’ll never be asked to share or push past what feels safe. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach; it’s about helping you get to know your system in a way that honors your uniqueness.

Do I need prior experience with parts work, IFS, or therapy to take this workshop?

Not at all. This workshop is designed to be beginner-friendly and gently guided. Whether you’re brand new to IFS or have worked with your parts for years, you’ll find accessible tools, grounding practices, and opportunities to deepen your self-awareness. Angie will explain key terms and concepts as we go, and you’ll always be invited—not obligated—to participate.

What if I get overwhelmed or emotional during the session?

That’s okay—and totally welcome. Parts work can bring up big feelings, especially when we meet protectors who have worked hard for us over time. This space is trauma-informed and paced with care. You’ll be guided through grounding exercises, and you'll never be asked to go further than feels right. You can always turn off your camera, step away briefly, or simply observe. Your system leads the way.

Is this workshop accessible for neurodivergent participants or people with different learning styles?

Yes—we’ve intentionally designed this space to be neurodivergent-aware and multimodal. You’ll engage through a mix of guided meditation, writing, drawing,

optional discussion, and somatic reflection. There’s no pressure to share verbally, and you’ll have a coursebook with prompts and visuals to support your process.

The goal is to meet you where you are, in the way your system processes best
